The small rail bus from the Wismar Company was built in numerous subclasses for many regional railroads. Four each rail buses with full gauge chassis were placed in the German State Railroad's (DRG) classes VT 133 and VT 135. Of these eight units, only four were acquired by the German Federal Railroad, and they were designated the class VT 89.9 (1 unit) and the class VT 88.9 (3 units). They were retired or sold as early as the beginning of the 1950s, when the construction program for the new VT 95 standard design rail bus was started. Except for the typical red paint scheme for DB powered rail cars, no Wismar bus bore the DB emblem, the well-known "cookie", introduced in 1955.
