Additional information

Tank Locomotive. Former German State Railroad (DRG) class 92, formerly Prussian class T 13. With miniaturized DELTA electronic circuit. Special motor with flywheel. 4 axles powered. 2 traction tires. Rigid frame running gear with side play for axles. Length over buffers 12.8 cm (5-1/6").

After the turn of the century, four-axle tank locomotives were procured on all German provincial railroads for the growing demand for transportation on short and branch lines. The various designs were brought together by the German State Railroad into the class 92.

Aside from a few exceptions these four-axle units were built as wet steam engines that produced less power than superheated steam engines to be sure, but that were considerably easier to maintain and service. This fact was particularly important for the employment of these locomotives on branch lines with less in the way of facilities.

The Prussian class T 13 represented the lion's share of the class 92 locomotives, of which 413 units were transferred from the Royal Prussian Railroad Administration to the German State Railroad. Another 84 units of similar design came from other provincial railroads and 72 locomotives were delivered from the locomotive builders directly to the DRG by 1922.

These locomotives were distributed throughout all of Germany depending on their planned use. After 1945 the DB and DR both continued the class 92 with the former T 13, which was increasingly used for switching work. Several units experienced a similar fate in France and Luxembourg. The last units of the class T 13 were retired in the middle of the 1960s.
