Additional information

Electric locomotive E 32, DB prototype, reworked edition. Wheel arrangement 2-6-2. Model of the E 32 101. Body plastic, frame die-cast metal, motor with flywheel. Drive on all drive axles via coupling rods, two wheels with traction tires. New pantographs, reworked wheels.

In the early 1920s the DRG needed new, above all light-weight, electric locomotives for the Bavarian passenger service. In 1922 the BBC and Maffei corporations were contracted to provide the required engines. A total of 29 of these locomotives were delivered from 1924 to 1926. The symmetrical body with slanted roof edges, head doors, and connection bridges at the front characterized the appearance of the engines. Power was provided by two twelve pole motors with countershafting. Drive was, as was usual at the time, via coupling rods onto the drive axles. In 1932, eight locomotives (E 101-108), including the prototype of Roco's model, were fitted with a modified transmission to increase the maximum speed from 75 to 90 km/h.

During World War II, four E 32 locomotives were lost, the remaining engines continued to perform reliably until the mid 1960s, when they were retired and replaced by the E 41.
