Additional information

Electric locomotive 1600, Railion prototype, yellow livery "Schiphol", wheel arrangement 4-4. Model of the 1602. Body plastic, drive on all 4 axles, two wheels with traction tires.

These locomotives were based on the BB 7200 built in the early 1980s by the French Alsthom company. Initially they were used in both express and goods service. With the introduction of the first bi-level coaches, the NS turned to push-pull operation in commuter and regional traffic. However, only the almost identical class 1700 locomotives were equipped for push-pull service. The class 1600 engines were therefore used more and more for heavy goods train traction. The 83 ton locomotive produces 4540 kW and reaches a top speed of 180 km/h.
