Additional information

Electric locomotive 1020, ÖBB prototype, blood-orange livery (HG version). Model of the 1020.43 with prototypical Era IV modifications. Total length 213 mm.

After the collapse of the German Reich, when Austria once again became an independent state, 44 class 94 engines (these were re-classified as 1020 only in 1953) remained on Austrian territory. As of 1967, all except the youngest three locomotives were subject to a major refurbishment, which included a change in appearance that differentiated them from their German counterparts without, however, losing their distinctive character.

These engines, which were designed for goods service, provided significant passenger transportation service on the Austrian alpine routes until the arrival of the class 1110, when they made themselves indispensable in their original calling as cargo locomotives. The last 1020 was retired from active ÖBB service as late as 1995.
