Additional information

Probably no other locomotive is more universally famous and recognized around the world than the Pennsylvania Railroad's GG-1 electric loco, with its unmistakable streamlined design by Raymond Loewy. The first of these venerable locos took to the rails in 1934, and a total of 139 were built over the next ten years. Each loco could easily handle an 18-car passenger or high tonnage freight consist on the Pennsy's electrified track between New York and Washington, D. C. on the north-south runs, and west as far as Harrisburg, PA. The GG-1 fleet wore many paint schemes over its nearly 50 year life span with the Penns, Penn Central, Amtrak, Conrail and, finally NJ Transit.
