The class 152 electric locomotive was developed as a joint project of Siemens and Krauss-Maffei. These units are being used to cover the increasing demand for powerful freight locomotives. The maximum speed 140 km/h (88 mph) is quite sufficient for these units. The continuous power rating of 6.4 megawatts (approx. 8,582 horsepower) with a weight of 86 metric tons and single-axle steering results in a massive tractive effort of 67,440 pounds.

This locomotive was produced as a one-time series only in 1999.
