The Luxembourg engines, throttled down to 120 km/h, saw service on the entire CFL net, as well as in cross-border goods and passenger traffic to France and Germany, and were often seen at the Trier station.

In 1985, the first of the CFL's AFB engines was retired, and the remaining three followed during the winter of 1995. Only the 1604 remained in the country and was restored; she now belongs to the Ministry of Culture and has been declared a technical monument.
