Additional information

Three Unit Diesel Electric Locomotive. National Railroad Passenger Corporation (Amtrak) EMD type F 7. With digital high-efficiency propulsion. Headlights digitally controlled. Total length 52.0 cm (20-1/2").

The National Railroad Passenger Corporation, known as Amtrak, assumed operation of passenger trains for all of America in 1971 and acquired 34 "F" class locomotives and leased another 100 units. The company's own F units were painted in the first Amtrak color scheme with a red nose that gave them the nickname "Rudolph". The American colors on a silver background were also used on the modernized streamliner passenger cars, the backbone of Amtrak's rolling stock. Despite their age, these reliable locomotives still played an important role in passenger service well into the 1970s (Amtrak phase I and II). They were operated chiefly in the mountainous regions of the Western USA.
